Ridgefield Sports Complex
Ridgefield, WA
Review by Mike
The Ridgefield Outdoor Recreational Complex is the home of the Ridgefield Raptors of the collegiate West Coast League. So, I’m taking off half a hot dog right off the bat for not giving the ballpark a name. Even worse, they can’t settle on a which cumbersome non-name to use, with alternate listings of Ridgefield Sports Complex also to be found. You can’t find a car dealership in Ridgefield to slap on the sign?
Anyway, the ballpark itself is fine, sparkling and clean. It’s a nice size for summer collegiate ball and offers a variety of seating options. There is the main grandstand with its blue and orange seats, widely spaced to give room to spread out a little. There are a pair of erector set grandstands on each baseline and, finally, picnic tables down the lines that are placed in such a way that fans sitting at them can actually see the game.
The playing surface is field turf and a press box / concession stand sits behind the home plate seating. The scoreboard looks good and everything seems… nice. I’m not sure why this place left me a little cold, though. Maybe it lights up on game day, with the aroma of grilling hot dogs and a lively crowd.
I liked the three rows of metal bleachers set back behind the colorful seats. These seem like an afterthought, and I’m thinking that if there are folks in the back row of normal seating, people sitting in the metal bleachers will see nothing but their backs. All in all, this is a fine little venue to watch some summer college ball, but for heaven’s sake, give a name, will ya?
