Lowell Park
Cotuit, MA

Review by Gary

Lowell Park in Cotuit, Massachusetts may be the finest baseball facility on Cape Cod. Nestled in the town of Barnstable since 1947, fans of the Cotuit Kettleers have been making the pilgrimage to Kettleer home games for generations. When planning a trip to a game, one would be advised to leave early as the 20+ space parking lot is quickly filled by players, coaches, umpires, and staff. Instead, fans happily park their vehicles along the lush, tree-lined streets nearby and walk with folding chairs and picnic blankets to the spacious grassy knolls around the stadium.

Every home game at Lowell Park is a day game that always starts at 5pm because this ballpark is one of three in the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) that has no lights. Like every other CCBL team, the Kettleers rely on volunteers to take care of this gem of a facility. Whether it be landscaping or repairs, these folks work year-round to ensure that Lowell Park always puts its best foot forward. Within moments of arriving at the ballpark, the guest feels a very convivial atmosphere as the crowd is excited to cheer on their team without being raucous.

There is abundant seating all around Lowell Park, except for right behind home plate. This shaded area in front of the two-story press box is reserved for Major League Baseball scouts, who hope to spot the next Charlie Blackmon, Ron Darling, John Franco, Jeff Reardon, or Tim Teufel, all of whom donned the Kettleer uniform. Perhaps that may contribute to Cotuit’s record 17 Cape Cod Baseball League championships as of 2024, which are shown off in a trophy case and on concrete and brick pedestals around the concourse.

Renovations have been done all around Lowell Park to provide the nicest accommodations on Cape Cod with new grandstands, press box, kitchen, restrooms, and dugouts all rebuilt in the 21st century. The facility provides the best variety of sightlines, from those who want to sit right near the action in any of the 2,500 wooden bleacher seats or those chilling down the line and beyond the outfield fence on their own seating.
